My story, 2020

In the field of fashion and textiles, sustainability remains an issue at large. The concept of this garment was to identify sustainable methods linking to my own cultural heritage. This garment explored sustainability x Japan x Sri Lanka.

The textiles were dyes using a shibori dye technique to create fluid, repetitive patterns and visual textures. The garment is a simple, wearable, timeless silhouette. The fabric waste created by making the base of this dress was then corded using Sri Lankan techniques. It was then looped to create straps and an overlay for the bodice of the dress, making the garment a zero waste garment.
